SKIN FIBROBLAST CULTURE
BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS

Description:

This protocol is used to establish a primary skin fibroblast culture from human skin biopsy punches. Skin fibroblasts are used in the laboratory to perform enzyme analyses for the purpose of diagnosing inborn errors of metabolism. Fibroblast cultures are routinely stored for 10 years from the time of submission into our laboratory.

Specimen Requirements:

The specimen is derived from a surgical biopsy. The tissue should be immediately placed in sterile tissue culture medium and transported to the laboratory as soon as possible. If necessary, samples can be maintained overnight at room temperature and transported to the laboratory the following day.

Turnaround Time:

Skin fibroblasts assays are growth dependent.
